We now keep contacts separate when emails are different

Monday, January 26, 2026·1 min read

If two people use the same phone number but have different emails, they’ll now be treated as separate contacts. This helps avoid mixing up information between different users.

Before, if two contacts had the same phone number but different emails, the system would combine them into one, which could cause confusion if it was actually different people sharing a phone. Now, if the email is different, even with the same phone number, a new contact will be created instead of mixing them together.

This means that if you or someone else updates their email or uses someone else’s phone, the contacts stay correct and don’t get merged by mistake. It keeps your contact list more accurate and easier to manage.
